DR-Fusion v1 - User Guide


Introduction


DR-Fusion is a drum sampler and synth. There are 9 drum sample players with almost 400 integrated samples and a further 5 drum synths. You can assign 2 samples to each part of the drum kit, the samples are triggered together allowing you to create new layered drum sounds.

Odo
The bass drum has two sample slots and 77 samples
- each sample slot has tune (1 octave), octaves and volume controls,
- and there are bass boost, pan, distortion and main volume controls.

There are two snares, each with two sample slots and 77 samples
- each sample slot has tune (1 octave), octaves and volume controls,
- and there is a low-pass / hi-pass /band-pass filter with cutoff and resonance,
- and pan and main volume controls

And there are two toms, each with have two sample slots and 76 samples
- each sample slot has tune (1 octave), octaves and volume controls,
- and there are bass boost, pan, distortion and main volume controls.

The hihat has two sample slots and 60 samples
- each sample slot has tune (1 octave), octaves and volume controls,
- and there is a low-pass / hi-pass /band-pass filter with cutoff and resonance,
- and pan and main volume controls

There is also a simple close hihat with a single sample slot and 39 samples
- you can use this one if you do not want to use the decayed open Hihat as the close,
- the sample slot has tune (1 octave), octaves and volume controls,
- there is a low-pass / hi-pass /band-pass filter with cutoff and resonance,
- and pan + main volume controls

The clap has a single sample slot and 29 samples
- the sample slot has tune (1 octave), octaves and volume controls,
- there is a low-pass / hi-pass /band-pass filter with cutoff and resonance,
- and pan + main volume controls

The ride and crash has two sample slots and 39 samples
- each sample slot has tune (1 octave), octaves and volume controls,
- there is a low-pass / hi-pass /band-pass filter with cutoff and resonance,
- and pan + main volume controls

In addition, DR-Fusion has several drum synths:
- bass drum synth
- tom synth
- snare synth
- clap synth
- rimshot synth

And, finally, there are a total of 77 Drum kits presets, and you can set up your own using the integrated samples and synths.

Sample Player Controls


Many of the sample player instruments have similar controls. Each of these is described here.


To select a sample for an instrument - just click on the darker blue tab to the left of the current sample name and select the desired sample from the pop-up list.



For many of the instruments you can select two samples, so they are triggered together allowing you to create new layered drum sounds.

You can also turn off the second sample.
For many of the instruments, you can:
  • set the overall volume level and pan position,
  • set the ADSR envelope for the volume,
  • or adjust the Decay time,
  • turn the second sample On or Off, by clicking the wave2: on/off tag
  • detune each of the two samples (+/- 1 octave),
  • transpose each of the two samples, using the octave control
  • adjust the volume level for each of the two samples,
  • enable a filter, select the filter type (Lo Pass, Hi Pass or Band Pass) and set the Cutoff Frequency and Resonance level,








Some of the instruments have additional specialised controls:


For the Kicks and the Toms, you can activate a distortion control by clicking the dist: on/off tag and set the distortion envelope shape and a volume limit.

You can also boost the sound (adding harmonics).




For the Hihats,
- there is an overall volume control,
- and individual volume controls for the Open, Closed and Pedal hihats
- there is also an alternative separate Closed HiHat instrument, with a decay control.




The Drum Synths


In addition to the sample-based instruments, DR-Fusion has several synths:


For the bass drum synth (no samples), there are
- 2 different waveforms for this synth - sine and triangle,
- 2 waveform generators with length, height and curve controls,
- detune, decay time and cutoff frequency controls,
- bass boost, pan position and volume controls.


For the tom synth, there are:
- 1 waveform generator with length and height controls,
- decay time and pm (phase modulation) controls,
- pop, pan position and volume controls.



And for the snare synth, there are:
- a noise generator with filter cutoff and volume controls,
- tom level and decay time controls,
- pan position and volume controls.




For the rimshot synth, there are:
- two tone controls,
- decay time and cutoff frequency controls,
- pan position and volume controls.

And for the clap synth, there are:
- a noise generator with volume and cutoff frequency controls,
- a big noise generator with decay time and volume controls, sounding like a little reverb,
- rate and decay time controls,
- pan position and volume controls.
